cream soup with bread on the side

A good soup moment

Legendary food moments can be a great meal out, a celebration with the family or just a magical memory of great times with great food.

I find that some of my most legendary food moments involve soup. This might seem a little odd but it is true. Soup served at the right moment can be such a mood changer, I remember the cold winters from my childhood growing up in England, a warming soup was always the saviour.

The fact that soups are so easy to make gives even more satisfaction and you can make soup without a recipe, just a dash of inspiration and some pantry staples is enough. A hearty leek and potato soup takes some beating in my household, add some warm crusty bread for a warming comforting treat and guaranteed empty bowls and happy smiles.

To make your own soup at this time of year choose root vegetables as these are in season and are also perfect for hearty warming soups. You can use also sorts of herbs and spices to add interest, for example fresh ginger is perfect for a carrot soup. Or try adding little chilli to pumpkin. Bacon, ham or chorizo are great added to any number of vegetables.

So time to be a legend and create your own soup moment.
